Maasai Mara

Two days on safari in Kenya's amazing game reserve - but no leopard was spotted.
Two days on safari in Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve provided some of the most amazing opportunities to see an incredibly vast array of wildlife in their natural habitat – this is no zoo.  I was continually compelled (but understandably discouraged) to try to exit the converted safari jeep that was our home to try to get better angles and inch just a tad closer.  Well, perhaps not always. I was fine being 10-15 feet away and behind a little bit of steel and glass for a few of those lion sightings.

It was amazing how many animals may glance at us gawkers pulling up in a vehicle on our two hind legs but largely they just continue to go about their business nonplussed.

Except the hyena.  He began following us as we drove off, clearly wanting to hang out with us the rest of the day.  However, the lodge we were headed back to was booked full and nobody was willing to share their room that night so we left him on the savanna in hopes he’d be ok.
